Ethnic and Racial Images in The Media

1) The first article we found was in the Communication abstracts, in the Communcation Journal Volume 53, issue 4. Its the 5th item in the table of contents, if you click on the link provided below, it will lead you to the list and click on the 5th one to view the article. The article titled: Framing identities: Gender, ethnic, and national parity in network announcing of the 2002 winter Olympics is an analysis of 53 hours of prime time Olympics broadcasting and the findings within the study and the representation of ethnic althletes and competitors. The article discusses which atheletes got the most coverage and best representation through reporters and commentators in the Olympics. It also goes into the portrayal of the various athletes and how consistent this was in other athletes of the same ethnic group. This article is an easy read with a lot of information, and its convenient because it is available for viewing on the web.

2) This article is taken from a the social abstract database and is entitled The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science v. 569. This article was dedicated to the life of the African-American Male in American life. It touches on the lacking diversity in the media. It continues by reviewing the patterns between African-American males and the media as a whole with specific references to print and broadcast media.

3) The third article we found was titled Black Women in Theatre: Creating New Avenues. The article is about a number of African American women who have become well known figures in theatre and its female African American actresses. This article also talks about how the various women have struggled in the past years to find work in the theatrical arts, and how they have fought against the discrimination.
